Sahdev Arjun Goankar (age 26) of Amate village, Jamboti, about 33 km from Belagavi who met with an accident near his village was declared brain dead and his organs were donated which saved 4 lives.
We had reported about this deed but the entire story behind this is not known to many.
Sahdev had met with an accident very near to his village and then was admitted to a VOTC hospital for treatment. His condition was critical since he was brought there and Doctors declared him brain dead.
Abhimanyu Daga social worker who was coordinating with the villagers in the hospital spoke to the family, Arjun Kaserlekar (Ex-Chairman), and Panchayat members of the village & convinced them to donate his organs which would give a lease to another four peoples life.
This may be for the first time ever happened that an entire village Panchayat with family member’s decision to donate organs for a good cause. The father Sahadev Shri Arjun Goankar said “We would love to see our child alive in someone who’s struggling to survive”.
“It was indeed a dramatic moment & at the same time was happy to see that I was able to convince an entire village for a good cause,” said Abhimanyu Daga (Social worker).
Soon after the decision, he was shifted to KLE’s DR.Prabhakar Kore hospital on instructions of Prabhakar Kore for further procedures which are authorized for such transplants.
Immediately the heart was transplanted to a patient in need at KLE hospital itself, while his 2 kidneys were taken to SDM hospital Dharwad arranged in a green corridor by the Police Department. The young man’s liver was soon taken to Hubballi again in Green Corridor & then flown to BGS hospital Bengaluru by Air.
The Doctors & the staff of KLE’s hospital were swift enough to take up all the procedures though most of the transplants weren’t in their hospital.
This was the first time ever something like this happened in a rural area of Belagavi.
