V. Somanna Infrastructure Development Minister has said that his govt will aggressively set in place a robust civil aviation system and plans are afoot to develop nine water aerodromes including one at Hidkal reservoir.
The Potential locations for the development of water aerodromes have been identified at KRS, Kali River, Byndur, Malpe, Mangaluru, Tungabhadra, Linganamakki, Alamatti and Hidkal reservoirs.
A water aerodrome is an open water space that seaplanes and amphibious aircraft can use for landing and take-offs.
They can be built at much less cost and time, as compared to land-based airports. They do not require the physical construction of the runway.
What is a water aerodrome?
An area of open water that can be used by seaplanes or amphibious planes for landing and takeoff is called a water aerodrome. They might have connected terminal building on land where the plane can choose to dock like a ship.
