The winter session which began at the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha Belagavi did not have a great start as the Assembly speaker had to adjourn the house for 10 minutes due to lack of quorum.

The legislative assembly has a strength of 225 members but only 20 were present which included 2 ministers.

Ministers Kagodu Thimmappa and D. K. Shivakumar were present. Even Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar were yet to come and hence the assembly had to be adjourned.

After 20 minutes the strength reached 75. Most of the members were yet to arrive in Belagavi and are expected to arrive by this evening as the first days work was wound after the condolence messages.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met the delegation of the private doctors who were protesting and assured agitating doctors that the State government would hold a round of discussion with them before the controversial the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (KPME) bill is tabled in the winter session of the legislature.

Meanwhile, IMA units will start a hunger strike from Tuesday. Bagalkot, Tumkur and Ranebennur IMA teams plan to sit in dharna near the Suvarna Soudha along with the IMA president.

Opposition BJP went ahead with its plan to corner the ruling Congress by demanding the resignation of Bengaluru City Development Minister K J George, resulting in pandemonium in Legislative Council on the opening day of the winter session on Monday.
