The 14 year wonder boy Moin Junnedi has made it to the India book of records as the “youngest swimmer with Locomotive disability”.
He swum for 200 mtrs and floated continuously for an hour. Moin participated in the 10th Paralympic Swimming Championship for the disabled in Kolkata on October 9, 2009 and won two gold medals. He also won a gold medal at the Bellary National Meet on July 9, 2010.
Moin suffers from Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI and sometimes known as brittle bone disease) People with OI are born with defective connective tissue, or without the ability to make it, usually because of a deficiency of Type-I collagen which make their bones very brittle and can cause easy fractures.
In spite of having faced more than 200 fractures Moin won 4 Golds and 1 silver medals at the National Swimming Championships for disabled held at different places he is awarded with India Book of Records Certificate. He also can float on the water more than an hour and can swim more than 250 metres. His bones are so soft a small blow may result in to the fracture.
Mustak and Kausar the parents of Moin are proud of him could not stop their tears when they saw the record certificate. Moin is practicing at Rotary Corporation Sports Academy’s Swimming Pool under the watchful eyes of Swim Coach Umesh Kalghatgi, Sudhir Kusane, Prasad Tendolkar, Anand Patil and Kallappa Patil. He has been supported by Rtn. Avinash Potdar, Shri Suresh Hundre, Smt. Maneck Kapadia, Smt. Lata Kittur, Rtn. Basavaraj Vibhuti and others.
