Atish Jadhav to represent India in special Olympics at Athens

Specially abled child from Swimmers’ Club Belgaum and Aquarius Swim Club Belgaum Master Atish Anil Jadhav (age 19) is selected in the Indian Team to attend the World Summer Games to be held at Athens (Greece) from 22nd June to 04th July 2011. For this SOWSG games six swimmers are selected from India (3 male / 3 female) and Atish is the only Swimmer from the Karnataka State. He will be competing in 50 mtrs. Butterfly and 400 mtrs. Free Style events. The Indian contingent is of 260 members (220 athlete and 40 supporting staff) from about 22 disciplines.

The Indian team will undergo a pre Olympic training camp which starting from 9th June to 19th June 2011 at New Delhi and will leave to Athens on 20th of June.

Master Atish Jadhav is a mentally retarded, son of Shri Anil and Anuradha Jadhav stays in Math Galli, Hosur, Belgaum. He is studying in Bodhini the School for the slow learners run by Gomatesh Vidyapith, Belgaum and supported by LEAD – The society for the Development of Disabled & Underprivileged.

He joined swimming in the year 2004 during a Swimming Coaching Camp conducted by Swimmers Club Belgaum and Aquarius Swim Club Belgaum for the Disabled & Underprivileged. Till now he has participated in the five National Swimming Championships for Disabled and won total of 11 National Medals comprising of 6 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals.

A very enthusiastic Atish also earned the name in the field of Skating and was honoured to attended National Ice Skating Selection Camp held at Simla. He is highly encouraged by Shri Suresh Hundre, Rtn. Avinash Potdar, Mrs. Anuradha and Raghvendra Pujar, Mrs. Maneck Kapadia, Mrs. Lata Kittur and Rtn. Basavraj Vibhuti.

He is vigorously practicing at the Rotary Corporation Sports Academy’s Swimming Pool under the watchful eyes of Swimming Coaches Shri Umesh Kalghatgi, Shri Sudhir Kusane, Shri Prasad Tendolkar and Shri Anandeshwar Patil.
