BELGAUM: Paddlers of Belgaum Division secured Silver medal emerging Runners Up in the Women’s category of Mysore Dasara State Level Table Tennis tournament held recently at Rotary School Mysore. The Belgaum Division Men’s team secured Bronze medal in the competition. The event was organized by Karnataka State Youth Affairs and Sporty Department. The tournament involved Winner teams of Belgaum, Bangalore city, Bangalore Rural, Mysore and Gulbarga Divisions.
Akshata Malshet of Belgaum division did the star turn for Belgaum Division. The event was played in League cum Knockout format. In the league stage Belgaum Division team comprising of Captain Sahana Kulkarni, Akshata Malshat, Apoorva Band Nidhi Patil defeated Gulbarga by a margin of 3-0 and Bangalore Rural also by 3-0. In Semi-finals Belgaum defeated Mysore by a margin of 3-1. Sahan Kulkarni defeated Ridhhi Rohit of Mysore.
Akshata Malshet defeated Amrita and Riddhi Rohit in reverse singles. But in the finals Belgaum Division lost to Bangalore City in a very close contest by a margin of 2-3. Belgaum had to settle for Silver in the event.
