At the ripe age of 57, Dr. Satish Bagewadi has achieved an incredible feat – he has earned the prestigious Super Randonneur (SR) title five times and also completed the 5 day SR challenge, where he cycled a whopping 1500 km in just five days.

The SR title is earned by completing 200 km, 300 km, 400 km, and 600 km cycling in an Audax calendar year, and Dr. Bagewadi has done it in a mere five days in the 5 day SR challenge organized by The Hubballi Cycling Club (HBC).

But that’s not all – Dr. Bagewadi has also completed a 1000 km LRM ride from Hubli to Mysore back in 2021.

Dr. Bagewadi, an ENT specialist, has been cycling in Belagavi since 2019 and is a member of the Venugram Cycling Club Belagavi. He took up cycling that same year, and his dedication and hard work paid off in a major way, allowing him to reach this remarkable milestone.

Dr. Bagewadi’s wife, Anjana, has been a steadfast supporter since he began cycling in 2019. She often joins him for leisurely rides when he is not participating in his Brevets des Randonneurs (BRM) rides.

When asked about his BRM experiences, Dr. Bagewadi confidently declared, “If I can do it, anyone with the right attitude can do it. Quitting is not an option, even after a break, especially after a 300 km ride. It’s the support of my fellow riders and family and friends who are miles away that gives me the strength to keep going.”

Dr. Bagewadi’s first 600 km BRM ride was particularly challenging. He remembers little of the ride, as he was exhausted and sleep-deprived. It was only his sheer determination and focus on the finish line that enabled him to complete the ride within the allotted time. He believes that the power of the mind is just as important as the strength of the body.

When asked about tips on long-distance riding Dr.Bagewadi said –

If you’re a beginner cyclist looking to take on longer rides, there are a few tips to keep in mind to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Make sure you have the right gear. Plan your route ahead of time. Knowing the terrain you’ll be riding on and the distance you’ll be covering can help you better prepare for your ride.

Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks with you on your ride. Eating and drinking regularly will help you maintain your energy levels and keep your body functioning properly.

Finally, take your time. Don’t try to rush your ride. Enjoy the scenery and take breaks when you need them. Cycling long distances can be a great way to explore and appreciate the outdoors, so make sure to take it all in.

Overall time limits vary for each brevet according to the distance.

13:30 hours-200 km

20:00 hours- 300 km

27:00 hours- 400 kms

40:00 hours- 600 kms
