Knock out phase of Royceton cup from tomorrow

The last day of the league phase witnessed bright sunshine throughout which came as a welcome relief to the seemingly never-ending Belgaum rains. The first match was played between St Paul’s High School and Beynon Smith High School. Ganesh Sakhe opened the score of the match in the 19th minute for St. Paul’s. Despite St. Paul’s lead, Beynon Smith tried hard to equalize the score but Imran Peerzade of St. Paul’s managed to score double goals in the 35th and 38th minutes of the match. Beynon Smith could not withstand St. Paul’s aggressive shots and let another goal through by Astle D’souza of St. Paul’s in the last few minutes of the match. St. Paul’s won the match 4 – 0.

The second match was played by KLS School and Phoenix Eng Med School. The match began by both teams playing well and fighting hard to score but KLS clearly appeared to be the team in control by Tushar Pawar opening the score for KLS in the 10th minute. Even though Phoenix tried hard and fought back it was not enough to stop Manish Bhaganache scoring double goals in the 18th and 29th minutes. KLS won the match 3 – 0.

In an exciting end to the league phase Marathi Vidyaniketan played against Cantonment Board School. The match turned out to be a close fight with both teams fighting hard to score. The first half was goal-less. The score of the match opened soon in the second half with Prashant Suryavanshi of Marathi Vidyaniketan scoring a gaol in the 32nd minute. Even though Cantonment tried hard to equalize the score, Marathi Vidyaniketan won the match 1 – 0.

The Knock-out phase begins tomorrow, Monday, 5th August with Islamiya School taking on Marathi Vidyaniketan at 3:00 PM in the first Semi-Final. In the second Semi-Final match at 4:00 PM, St. Paul’s High School will play M V Herwadkar School.
