In a major decision, the State Cabinet has approved a grant of ₹10.44 crore for establishing a new fire station in Belagavi city. This move marks a significant step toward improving emergency response infrastructure in the rapidly growing urban area.
With Belagavi’s population and geographical footprint expanding, the existing fire services are finding it increasingly difficult to manage the rising number of fire-related incidents. The city and the adjoining taluka rely on just one fire station, which also houses the Fire District Officer’s office.
The lack of sufficient infrastructure, especially in areas like Belagavi North and South, which are plagued by narrow lanes and heavy traffic congestion, often causes delays in emergency response. These delays have contributed to increased losses in recent fire incidents.

Belagavi city comprises 3 assembly constituencies and is surrounded by several densely populated villages in the taluk. Despite this, no additional fire station has been built in recent years, apart from the one near Suvarna Soudha at Halga.
Officials believe the new fire station is likely to be established in the Belagavi North area, where the need is most urgent. The exact location, however, is yet to be finalized. With funding now approved, the construction work is expected to begin soon.
