The City Corporation has proposed two vending zones in Belagavi—at Kotwal Galli and Nargundkar Bhave Chowk—both in the northern part of the city. Once the government approves the proposal, ₹2.5 crore will be released for their development.

Although the city has around 8,000 registered vendors, only these two locations are being taken up as earlier-identified sites in the southern part faced objections.

Traders operating in these vending zones will not pay daily rent but will be charged an annual fee of ₹1,000. In return, the Corporation will provide infrastructure such as market stalls, electricity, water, and toilets.

Residents of Kotwal Galli have already raised concerns about allowing a vending zone there, making the feasibility uncertain.

A committee—including a corporator and representatives of traders—must be formed as per government rules issued in 2016. However, this step is still pending and will be taken up only after government approval.

The Corporation has not yet clarified whether only the existing vendors at these spots will be accommodated or if others will also get space.

  1. Ban all street vending. Roads are for commuting not doing business. Corruption starts here by allowing vending. Let the vendors take up jobs in d Mart Reliance Mart etc

  2. Give good space for vendor to do good business and also pay taxes
Streats are for moving by all persons and not blocking where danger has created
    Cleanliness will also be maintained
