A proposal worth ₹11 crore for urgent repairs and renovation of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi has been submitted twice, but the State government has yet to approve it—triggering strong dissatisfaction among legislators across party lines. They now plan to raise the issue during the Winter Session in December.
Built in 2012 at a cost of over ₹450 crore to support the development needs of North Karnataka, the iconic Suvarna Vidhana Soudha has not seen even a fresh coat of paint in more than a decade. Officials say repeated proposals for repairing damaged infrastructure, replacing worn-out furniture, fixing toilets, and other essential works have gone unanswered.
During his recent visit to Belagavi, Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader assured reporters that the matter will be discussed in the upcoming session, expressing confidence in the district administration’s efforts.

Currently, 30 government departments operate from the complex, and frequent meetings, training programs, and events have significantly increased footfall and maintenance load. Renovation plans include repainting the entire structure, replacing doors, windows, chairs and carpets, repairing roadways and drainage within the campus, and securing a better drinking water system.
Despite detailed proposals submitted by the Public Works Department in 2023 and 2024, no approval has been granted so far, officials said.
