13 People, Including Woman Who Filed False Rape Case, Sentenced to Jail

The court has sentenced 13 people, including a young woman who falsely accused a Hescom officer of rape in Belagavi, to 3 years and 6 months in prison.

In a significant ruling, 13 individuals, including a woman who filed a false rape case against a HESCOM officer in Belagavi district, were sentenced to three years and 6 months in prison each. Additionally, each of the accused was fined 86,000 rupees. This judgment was issued by Judge Smt. L. Vijayalakshmidevi, Principal District and Sessions Court of Belagavi.

The woman had accused the then Hescom Assistant Superintendent Engineer Tukaram Majjige of raping her, threatening her life, and inciting her to commit suicide.

B.V. Sindhu, the woman who made the false accusations, along with her 12 accomplices, has been sentenced to three and a half years (3 years and 6 months) each. Along with the prison term, a fine of Rs 86,000 has been imposed on each of the accused. This ruling has cleared Hescom Assistant Superintendent Engineer Tukaram Majjige of the false allegations, allowing him to lead a life of honor.

On November 19, 2014, B.V. Sindhu filed a complaint against Hescom officer Tukaram Majjige, alleging rape, life threats, and incitement to suicide. However, the Malmaruti police station’s investigation revealed that the allegations were false, as indicated in a ‘B report’ submitted to the court. Sindhu herself admitted in an affidavit that she filed the false complaint under the influence of others.

In 2017, HESCOM officer Tukaram Majjige filed a case against 13 individuals, including Sindhu, for the false rape accusation. The police collected testimonies from 81 witnesses in this case. After a prolonged hearing, Judge L. Vijayalakshmidevi delivered this significant judgment.
