24-Hour Water Supply Only for PID Holders; Extra Taps to Be Shut

The L&T company has started implementing strict rules regarding the 24-hour water supply scheme in Belagavi city. As per the Urban Development Department’s order, only properties with a Property Identification (PID) number will be provided with a round-the-clock water connection. Additionally, only one connection per PID is allowed, and any extra taps installed earlier are being disconnected.

This new rule has created challenges in areas like Kanbargi, Basavan Kudchi, and Alarwad, where multiple families often reside in a single house. Previously, households in these areas had been given multiple water taps on request, after paying deposits and regular water bills. However, with the new 24-hour water supply scheme, only a single connection per PID is being provided, leading to water-sharing issues among families.

This has led to protests from Kanbargi residents, who have demanded that they should continue to receive multiple taps as before. They have questioned why taps installed earlier—after paying the necessary fees—are now being removed.

Municipal officials have assured that connections are being provided as per regulations and that residents facing issues can contact the concerned staff. However, with multiple families relying on a single tap, concerns have arisen about potential water disputes in affected localities.

Meanwhile, work on the 24-hour water supply project continues in Belagavi, with connections being granted only after verifying the PID number.

  1. It’s a very poor decision to allot one tap per PID. There are multiple families under one roof. Further, looking at the erratic supply, one tap may not suffice the need. It also will lead to sky rocketing of water bills.
Please donot play with basic necessities like this. People are already under pressure with inflation, poor roads, health care, transport and other basic issues. Hostile Authorities must not forget that they are dealing with citizens of India only

    I hope good sense prevails

  2. Water is a very basic and important necessity. Instead of providing one connection per property, we should try to provide a certain number of connections depending on the number of people residing in that property(for instance one connection per 3 or 4 or 5 members in the family). First of all, we need to rethink if 24 hours water supply is REALLY needed for ALL citizens, because WATER IS A PRECIOUS RESOURCE and there may be many people who take 24 hours water supply FOR GRANTED. Such people may use water carelessly.

Unlike households, for some commercial or industrial setups, 24 hours water supply is needed.

    Thanks.

    • 24 hr water supply is a basic necessity globally. Water usage should be monitored and capped or high bill should be generated on crossing limit as some ppl who use water even to construct additional floors on their houses – well known docs who own hospitals also do this! Some keep tenants on 1 floor and use same water connection.

  4. In kangrali kH we get water supply once in 8-10 days and in summents sometimes in 12 days also. From past 05 years 24 hrs water scheme is in news . Villages like honaga , kadoli, kalkamb has multiple taps and have adequate water supply where as in kangrali we are getting drinking water once in 10 days. Authorities should look in to matter and supply water to all parts of belgavi equally
