A major boost to Belagavi’s industrial ecosystem is on the horizon, with a state-of-the-art Technology Centre (Tech Hub) set to be established in the Auto Nagar area on nearly 10 acres of land. The process of transferring the land from the State Government to the Central Government has begun and is expected to be completed within a month.

The project falls under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) scheme — “Establishment of New Technology Centres” — under which 20 new centres are being set up across the country. Belagavi has been selected for one of these prestigious centres, reportedly the second of its kind in South India.

Although the project received approval nearly four years ago, finalisation of the location took time. Earlier, sites including Peeranwadi were inspected but not cleared. The Auto Nagar site has now been approved, and documentation is being handled by the District Industries Centre (DIC).

According to Satyanarayana Bhatt, Joint Director, DIC, once the land transfer is completed, the tendering and administrative formalities will follow. Actual construction is expected to begin within six months.

The Technology Centre, estimated to cost around ₹250 crore, will include advanced laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, research facilities, skill development centres, a residential industrial training facility, and a technical education college. The focus will be on industry-oriented and employment-driven courses, with a target to train at least 1,000 students annually.

The centre is expected to generate significant direct and indirect employment while strengthening local industries through technical support and innovation. Officials believe that once operational, the facility will enhance industrial investment in the region and position Belagavi prominently on the technology and innovation map.

Citizens and industry stakeholders are now hoping that the administrative process moves swiftly so that groundwork can commence without further delay.
