Belagavi has completed the vast majority of projects sanctioned under the Smart Cities Mission (SCM), with 98% of the works already finished and the remaining few under implementation, according to information presented in the Rajya Sabha.
In response to an unstarred question raised by Rajya Sabha MP Iranna Kadadi, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs provided details on the progress of Smart City projects in Belagavi.
The Ministry informed that Belagavi Smart City Limited (BSCL) has received โน490 crore as central financial assistance, which represents 100% of the total central share allocated to the city. The entire amount has already been utilised.

Out of a total of 217 projects worth โน2,780 crore, 212 projects valued at โน2,722 crore have been completed, while five projects worth โน58 crore are currently under implementation.
Among the key projects, the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) and Heritage Park Phase 1 and Phase 3 have been completed. Work on Heritage Park Phase 2 is still underway.
The Ministry also clarified that certain works mentioned in the question โ including the Tilakwadi Master Plan, the vacuum sewer network, and the 24×7 water supply pilot project โ are not part of the Smart Cities Mission.
Regarding the impact of the Smart City initiatives, the government stated that the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation Ltd. (KUIDFC), the nodal agency, has appointed the Karnataka Monitoring and Evaluation Authority (KMEA) to assess how these projects have improved the quality of life in Belagavi.
The update indicates that Belagavi is nearing the completion of its Smart City programme, with only a handful of projects remaining to be finished.
