Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Narayan Baramani has refused to withdraw his Voluntary resignation, dealing a fresh blow to the Karnataka government. This comes in the aftermath of a controversial incident in Belagavi, where Chief Minister Siddaramaiah publicly reprimanded Baramani during a Congress event, leading to widespread criticism.

Despite repeated efforts by the state government, including personal appeals from CM Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. Parameshwara, Baramani has stood his ground.

In his resignation letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, Baramani wrote:
“Having been publicly insulted and humiliated by the behaviour of the Honourable Chief Minister on a public platform for a mistake I did not commit, I have no other option but to voluntarily resign and I request that you accept this.”

The controversy erupted during the ‘Save Constitution’ rally in Belagavi earlier this year, when BJP women workers staged a protest at the venue, donning black scarves. The Chief Minister, angered by what he saw as a lapse in security, summoned ASP Baramani—who was in charge of stage security—and publicly scolded him. A widely circulated video showed Siddaramaiah raising his hand in anger, appearing to almost slap the officer before restraining himself.
