The Belagavi City Corporation has made waste segregation at source mandatory for all households in the city, with the implementation of the rule already underway. Residents are now required to separate wet, dry, and hazardous waste at home and hand it over to municipal workers during garbage collection. The Health Department has instructed municipal staff not to accept unsorted waste, and punitive measures are set to be enforced for non-compliance.
The initiative isn’t new; eight years ago, the Corporation distributed green and blue dustbins to encourage waste segregation at the household level. However, due to poor enforcement, the practice stopped within a month. Recently, a strict directive from the Corporation Commissioner has revived the initiative, and segregation has been made mandatory once again.
To ensure compliance, municipal employees and contracted sanitation workers in all wards have been instructed to enforce the rule. Wet waste is sent to the processing plant in Turmuri, dry waste is delivered to cement companies for recycling, and hazardous waste is processed scientifically.

Earlier this month, the Commissioner conducted a city-wide inspection and observed that waste segregation at source was not being followed. This prompted strict orders for immediate enforcement, with awareness campaigns rolled out in all wards. Initially, residents were reluctant to comply, but the Corporation’s decision to halt garbage collection from non-compliant households has led to increased participation.
Under the Solid Waste Management Rules, violators will face penalties ranging from ₹50 to ₹500. The Corporation aims to ensure sustained compliance and improve overall sanitation standards in the city.
What a load of garbage 🗑️, a fat pantload of garbage.
The move is very much welcomed.
But the garbage collector simply puts both dry/wet in one container vehicle. When asked, the collector bluntly says that we do segregation later. But you must segregate and hand over.
The collecting contractor must be fined 1st.
Question arises, whats the use of we segregating when both are mixed in transporting vehicle.
LOL😂😂😂
Who decides this???
The garbage collectors are not there in proper dress code nor they use proper gloves
Garbage vehicles are never on daily routine infact the surpass half of our galli
Indeed they also burn the garbage containing plastics and other waste Do see the open place opp to Madhavpur branch Union bank of India
Daily night they collect and dump there or once a month they burn it
Instead of telling public not to throw the garbage here and there
Ask them or tell them the place where they must throw it
When the garbage collector vehicles are not on daily basis then surely somewhere garbage will be thrown
