A Belagavi-rooted initiative is today making national headlines. Energy In Motion (EIM), a company promoted by Ravindra Energy Ltd Ltd. of Belagavi, has launched India’s first public battery swapping-cum-charging station for heavy commercial electric vehicles at the Delhi International Cargo Terminal (DICT), Sonipat, Haryana.
The landmark event was inaugurated by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari, with Union Steel Minister Shri H. D. Kumaraswamy attending as Guest of Honour.

A Belagavi Brainchild Goes National
The driving force behind EIM is Narendra Murkumbi, its Managing Director, who hails from Belagavi and belongs to the Murkumbi family — long associated with Ravindra Energy. Both Ravindra Energy Ltd. and Energy In Motion Pvt. Ltd. are officially registered in Belagavi, with their corporate roots firmly planted in Karnataka.
This makes today’s launch not just a milestone for the nation’s EV ecosystem, but also a proud moment for Belagavi, marking the city’s growing contribution to India’s clean energy and transport revolution.
What Energy In Motion Does
Energy In Motion is building a complete eco-system for heavy commercial e-vehicles, which includes:
- Battery Swapping + Charging Stations – enabling trucks to swap battery packs in minutes, ensuring near-zero downtime.
- Heavy Electric Trucks – in partnership with global manufacturers like Foton, offering advanced heavy-duty electric vehicles.
- Leasing & Finance Models – including battery pack leasing and pay-per-use options to reduce upfront costs for operators.
- Renewable Energy Integration – drawing from Ravindra Energy’s renewable portfolio to ensure green power charging.
- Maintenance & Service Support – providing end-to-end lifecycle solutions for fleet operators.
Heavy trucks form only a small percentage of vehicles on Indian roads but contribute disproportionately to vehicular emissions. With automated battery swaps taking as little as five minutes, EIM’s solution addresses two major hurdles in EV adoption for freight operators — range anxiety and downtime.
Belagavi’s Emerging Energy Hub
With Ravindra Energy and now EIM both registered in Belagavi, the city finds itself on the clean mobility map. Local observers believe the Murkumbi family’s push could attract new investments, create jobs, and make Belagavi a critical node in India’s renewable-mobility supply chain.
Looking Ahead
EIM has already announced plans to roll out 22 battery swap stations at major logistics hubs across India by 2025, scaling to industries like cement, steel, and mining in the next phase. The Sonipat station marks the first step in this ambitious journey.
What began in Belagavi as a renewable energy initiative has now scaled to become a national mobility solution. With today’s Sonipat launch, Energy In Motion has placed itself — and Belagavi — squarely on the frontline of India’s EV revolution.
