Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar engaged in discussions with Union Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, focusing on strategies to prevent the cancellation of Indigo’s daily morning flight between Belagavi and Bengaluru. The airline plans to discontinue the service on October 27, 2024, despite achieving a strong passenger capacity of at least 82% over the past year.

The cancellation is seen as a major inconvenience for the public, and MP Shettar urged the Union Minister to request IndiGo Airlines to continue the service. He also proposed operating larger aircraft, such as Airbus, on the Bengaluru and Mumbai routes to accommodate higher passenger demand.

Taking the matter seriously, Minister Naidu assured that he would engage with Indigo officials to explore potential solutions. He also promised to address expanding flight services from Belagavi Airport to new destinations, including Pune, Chennai, Cochin, Lucknow, Mysuru, and Surat.

In addition, a proposal to extend the Udan-3 project for another decade would boost connectivity and support the overall development of the Belagavi district.

Earlier, MP Shettar had met senior Indigo officials in New Delhi, where the cancellation was attributed to the expiration of the airline’s lease period. However, there is hope that the service will resume shortly, with new aircraft expected in December. Discussions also highlighted the potential for new flight routes from Belagavi Airport.
