Belagavi City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase has issued a stern warning against those roaming the streets with deadly weapons, stating that such individuals will face strict legal action, including being booked as rowdy sheeters.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Commissioner Borase said, “It has come to our notice that some miscreants — including minors — are openly carrying dangerous weapons like knives and swords. This will not be tolerated. A special squad has been formed to tackle this issue and will begin operations from Thursday.”
The newly formed team, comprising five to six officers, will patrol in a vehicle and check individuals suspected of carrying weapons. “Anyone found with such arms will be booked under the Arms Act, and we will open a rowdy sheet against them. They will be required to report to the police station during festivals and holidays,” the Commissioner warned.

Commenting on the recent stabbing at the Central Bus Stand, he confirmed that minors were involved in the attack over a dispute for a window seat. “Two accused have been arrested. They first verbally abused the victim and later attacked him with a knife. Our team, led by DCP Rohan Jagadish, apprehended the culprits within 10 hours of the incident,” Borase stated.
He added that the police are conducting a thorough investigation and are committed to ensuring strict punishment. “It is shocking that such a brutal act was committed over something as trivial as a window seat. The injured student, Maz, has undergone surgery and is now stable. Further inquiry is ongoing to examine the background of the accused,” he added.
Police have reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on violence and have urged citizens to report suspicious behaviour immediately.
