The Union Ministry of Railways has informed the Rajya Sabha that Belagavi Railway Station recorded originating passenger earnings of ₹61.27 crore in the last financial year, with an average daily passenger footfall of 14,296.

The details were shared by Union Minister for Railways Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw in a written reply to an unstarred question raised by Rajya Sabha MP Shri Iranna Kadadi on December 12, 2025.

In his response, the Minister stated that to increase train-handling capacity and decongest goods traffic within Belagavi city limits, the earlier goods shed area at Belagavi has been converted into pit lines and additional platforms.

Freight Operations Shifted to Sambre

Freight operations are now being handled at the Sambre Goods Shed, located about 8 km from Belagavi Railway Station. The Sambre facility currently manages:

  • Inward freight: Cement, food grains, and fertilizers
  • Outward freight: Sugar and container traffic

At present, around 25 freight rakes per month are being handled at the Sambre goods shed, the Minister informed.

Ghataprabha–Gokak Railway Line Status

Responding to a query on the Ghataprabha–Gokak new railway line survey, the Railways clarified that Gokak town is already served by Gokak Road Railway Station, located approximately 11 km away.

Additionally, Ghataprabha and Gokak Road are adjacent stations on the existing Miraj–Londa railway section. The Centre also highlighted that the Pune–Miraj–Londa doubling project has been commissioned recently, aimed at improving overall rail connectivity in the region.

The reply, however, did not indicate any fresh timeline or approval for a separate Ghataprabha–Gokak railway line.
