Belagavi district has reason to celebrate as Kiran Kamate, a native of Hattarawat village in Chikodi taluk, has secured All India Rank (AIR) 53 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025, the results of which were announced on March 6, 2026.

Kiran completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from KLS Gogte Institute of Technology (GIT), Belagavi. Known for his active involvement during his college days, he not only excelled academically but also took up leadership roles in organising national-level techno-cultural events such as Yukti. He also co-authored research on pedal-operated water pumps aimed at supporting rural farming communities.

He later pursued BE in Civil Engineering from Gogte Institute of Technology (GIT), Belagavi. In 2023, he was appointed as an Assistant Engineer in the Karnataka Public Works Department (PWD) after clearing the KPSC examination and is currently serving at the PWD Head Office in Bengaluru.

Kiran Kamate was born in Hattarawat village in Chikodi taluk of Belagavi district. His father serves as the Principal of HIT College, Nidasoshi, while his mother is a homemaker. He also has a twin sister who completed her B.Architecture from the same batch and is currently preparing for the UPSC examination.

Kiran completed his early schooling at KLE School in Hubballi, followed by Classes 9 and 10 at KLE School in Gadag. He pursued his PUC at KLE College in Nippani and later completed his BE in Civil Engineering from Gogte Institute of Technology (GIT), Belagavi between 2014 and 2018.

He began preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination during the COVID-19 period in 2020. Since March 2023, he has been working as an Assistant Engineer with the Public Works Department (PWD) in Bengaluru. In 2026, he secured the 53rd rank in the UPSC examination, with Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) as his optional subject.

This was his sixth and final attempt, and in a previous attempt he had narrowly missed the selection by just 30 marks. His preparation was largely through self-study, with coaching limited mainly to mock tests.

Kiran’s journey—from a small village in Chikodi taluk to securing a top national rank—stands as an inspiring example of dedication, discipline, and commitment to public service. His achievement has brought pride to Belagavi district and the academic community of GIT.
