he Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) has earned a double distinction this year. In the India Today survey, BIMS secured the 2nd position among the best medical colleges in Karnataka, while also receiving approval to increase MBBS intake from 150 to 200 seats for the academic year 2025–26.
As Karnataka’s second-largest district, Belagavi continues to make notable contributions across sectors. BIMS, a key healthcare hub for underprivileged patients, has also built a strong reputation in academics. The enhanced intake is expected to provide greater opportunities for students, particularly those from rural and economically weaker backgrounds.

The National Medical Council (NMC), New Delhi, has issued an official notification confirming the revised admission capacity. Expressing pride in this achievement, Dr. Ashok Kumar Shetty, Director of BIMS, congratulated the teaching and non-teaching staff whose efforts made this possible, said a press release.
