In a shocking incident reported under Yamakanmardi police station limits, a man murdered his elder brother following a dispute over tending sheep. The accused, 24-year-old Basantraj Suresh Kamati of Hattialur village, was arrested and has confessed to the crime.
According to the police, the victim, 28-year-old Rayappa Suresh Kamati, had gone to feed the sheep on May 8, 2025. Later that day, his body was discovered in an open area near Paschapur village. He had been fatally struck on the head with a stone. His father, Suresh Birappa Kamati, filed a complaint the next day.
A special investigation team led by Inspector Javed Mushapuri, under the direction of SP Dr. Bhimashankar Guled and other senior officers, pursued the case with diligence for nearly a month. They eventually zeroed in on Basantraj as the primary suspect.

During interrogation, Basantraj admitted to the murder. He revealed that ongoing pressure from Rayappa to tend to the sheep clashed with his personal aspirations, and he feared being stuck with the responsibility permanently. On the day of the crime, Basantraj threw chili powder in his brother’s eyes while he was distracted on his phone and then repeatedly struck him with a stone, resulting in his death.
The police have recovered the weapon used in the murder and presented the accused before court. The case was cracked thanks to the tireless efforts of the investigation team, bringing closure to a tragic family feud.
