A new cancer hospital will be set up on the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) premises, as decided in the Quarterly KDP Review Meeting held at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha. The hospital was initially planned for Chikkodi, but the final decision favours Belagavi, who prefers locating it within the BIMS campus.

District Guardian Minister Satish Jarkiholi emphasised the urgency of addressing the region’s water scarcity while also fast-tracking key development projects. “Special attention must be given to ensure timely water supply to drought-affected villages,” he told officials during the meeting.

The minister also directed that all projects under the Mission Plan, including multi-village drinking water schemes and other development initiatives, be completed promptly and without delay.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan informed that the process of allocating suitable space for the cancer hospital at BIMS is underway and will be finalized soon. He also stated that recruitment of specialist doctors and staff for the upcoming super-specialty hospital will begin shortly. The matter has been escalated to the Chief Minister’s office for further action.

The state government is placing increased focus on the health and education sectors. In line with this, ongoing hospital construction projects in the district are to be completed at the earliest. Additionally, steps will be taken in consultation with local MLAs to address the shortage of medical professionals in these facilities.
