Efforts are underway to boost tourism in the Gokak region, with plans to develop a car ropeway near the iconic Gokak Falls, along with several key infrastructure projects. A proposal worth ₹50 crore, which includes a car-rope road and essential passenger amenities, was submitted to the state government two years ago and is now being actively pursued by Guardian Minister Satish Jarkiholi.

Speaking at a private event held at the Mahalaxmi Auditorium in Gokak, Minister Jarkiholi revealed that the proposal has been placed before Tourism Minister H. K. Patil and is under serious consideration. The plan not only focuses on the Gokak Falls but also aims to enhance tourist facilities at nearby spots such as Godchinmalki Falls and the Hidkal reservoir.

“Tourism in this region has great potential,” Jarkiholi said, “and to unlock it, providing basic infrastructure for travelers is essential.” Officials from the tourism and public works departments have already visited the area and prepared preliminary reports for development.

₹10 Crore Special Grant for Gokak

In a significant move, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has sanctioned a special grant of ₹10 crore on the occasion of the Mahalaxmi Yatra being held in Gokak after a decade. This grant will fund road improvements and other civic development projects in the city.

To further decentralize healthcare and education services, Minister Jarkiholi also highlighted plans for setting up a district-level hospital, along with engineering and medical colleges in Gokak, thereby reducing the growing pressure on Belagavi’s healthcare infrastructure. He urged residents of the region to support and cooperate with the execution of these initiatives.

Infrastructure Boom Across Belagavi District

The Karnataka Public Works Department (PWD) is spearheading multiple large-scale projects in Belagavi district, which include:

  • Construction of the Arabhavi–Lokapur dual carriageway at a cost of ₹300 crore

  • Widening of Gokak Road
  • A railway flyover at Hudali worth ₹35 crore
  • A new bridge over the Ghataprabha River near Gokak costing ₹40 crore
  • Widening and upgrading of 70 major roads across the district

All these projects are expected to begin in the coming year and are aimed at improving regional connectivity and encouraging tourism and development.
