Belagavi Municipal Commissioner Shubha B has issued a directive for the takeover of the Thalakwadi Club, citing violations of the tenancy agreement with the Belagavi City Corporation. The order, dated late April, was officially communicated to the club’s office bearers on May 3.
The Thalakwadi Club case was under consideration in the Municipal Commissioner’s court, and the final hearing took place towards the end of April. The Commissioner’s decision notes that the club has not adhered to the original terms under which the Corporation allotted land, dating back to February 23, 1931.
According to sources in the Revenue Department, Commissioner Shubha B has clearly instructed the Corporation to take possession of the club premises. However, it remains uncertain when the order will be executed, as the responsibility for implementation lies with the Deputy Commissioner of Revenue.

The Commissioner’s order outlines that the club has deviated from its original purpose, and certain conditions of the lease have been breached. While no specific date has been mentioned for the takeover, the directive has triggered speculation about imminent action.
In anticipation of a possible legal challenge from the club’s management, the Corporation has filed a caveat in court to avoid delays in enforcing the order. Currently, there are no legal obstacles to implementing the Commissioner’s directive.
The issue was prominently raised by Deputy Mayor Vani Joshi during the Corporation’s general body meeting held on April 5. MLA Abhay Patil also followed up on the matter, with discussions indicating that a decision would be taken after a hearing scheduled for April 9. Although the hearing was postponed, it was eventually concluded at the end of April, resulting in the current order.
When asked about the implementation, Thalakwadi Division Revenue Officer Udayakumar Talwar clarified that the Deputy Commissioner of Revenue is responsible for carrying out the order. As of now, further action awaits a move from the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
