The Belagavi Police have initiated an investigation into the death of a 47-year-old moneylender and realtor following a complaint from his daughter, suggesting that it may have been murder. Santhosh Dundappa Padmannavar’s body was exhumed after his 18-year-old daughter, Sanjana, raised concerns upon her return to the city from Bengaluru.

Sanjana was unconvinced that her father’s passing was due to a heart attack and promptly reported her suspicions to the authorities. Her complaint implicated her 41-year-old mother, Uma, her 30-year-old friend, Shobit Gowda from Mangaluru, two servants named Nanda and Prakash, as well as an unidentified man.

With the necessary permission from Sub-divisional Magistrate Shravan Kumar, the police conducted a post-mortem examination after exhuming the body. Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang stated that the post-mortem report is forthcoming.

Santhosh resided with his wife and sons in a three-story residence in Anjaneya Nagar. Uma, his wife, informed both families that he had succumbed to a heart attack on the night of October 9. Notably, Santhosh was a man of considerable financial means, owning several luxury vehicles and maintaining an extensive CCTV system within his home.

Following the burial and funeral proceedings, Sanjana expressed a desire to review the CCTV footage from the night of her father’s passing. However, her mother delayed sharing the footage, leading Sanjana to suspect that certain recordings had been deleted. She believed her father to be in good health and doubted that a heart attack was the cause of death, prompting her to seek assistance from relatives in filing a complaint at the Malmaruti Police Station on Tuesday.

Investigators have discovered that Ms. Uma was upset with Santhosh due to the mistreatment he was subjecting her to. Meanwhile, Santhosh was angered by Ms. Uma developing a relationship with an online friend.

Authorities suspect that Ms. Uma may have given Santhosh sleeping tablets, and that more than two individuals may have strangled him.

Despite being unable to access the complete footage from the building’s CCTV cameras, the police have managed to obtain some footage from the cameras in the homes of Santhosh’s neighbors. One of the clips shows two individuals leaving the victim’s residence at night.
