The South Sub-Registrar Office, located in Subhash Chandra Nagar in Belagavi’s southern part, is set to be relocated following concerns about its accessibility for citizens and the financial burden it places on the government. District Guardian Minister’s instructions prompted the decision to shift the office and has been formalized by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan.
The Sub-Registrar Office was originally opened in a BSNL-leased building in Subhash Chandra Nagar to serve the city’s southern part, including 72 villages. However, many citizens still have to visit the North Sub-Registrar Office for documents and certificates issued before 2003, causing inconvenience due to the seven-kilometer distance from the central bus stand.

Additionally, the government has been paying an annual rent of Rs 9,52,968 (Rs 79,414 per month) to BSNL, adding significant financial strain. As part of the government’s effort to reduce unnecessary expenditures across departments, the relocation of this office has been prioritized.
The new location for the South Sub-Registrar Office is expected to be within the premises of the North Sub-Registrar Office, near the Collectorate. The move is aimed at reducing inconvenience for citizens and easing the financial burden on the government.
It’s a reckless and atrocious decision and certainly not in the interests of the Belgaumites of the South. The reason of old files to be obtained from the North is ridiculous, since the office at South was created for the convenience of the public from South. The income generated from the South Office by way of Regn & Stamp duty is in several Crores. Therefore, sufferings of Public is not highlighted properly by the Dist. Administration to the Ho’nble Minister or otherwise it has yielded to illegal and immoral political pressure.
