A nature-based tourism initiative is on the horizon, as the Karnataka government plans to introduce a wildlife safari in the buffer zone of the Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary, which lies along the Karnataka-Goa border.

Speaking at a Meet-the-Press session organized by the Belagavi Media Association at the Department of Information, DC Belagavi, Mohammad Roshan, shared details of the proposed project.

“The safari will be strictly limited to the buffer zone of the sanctuary, well outside the ecologically sensitive core area,” DC Roshan clarified. “It will follow a small, pre-existing stretch of road to ensure minimal disruption to the natural environment.”

Highlighting the government’s focus on sustainable tourism, he added, “Only electric vehicles will be permitted for the safari. This ensures a zero-emission experience that aligns with our commitment to preserving the ecosystem.”

Beyond tourism, the safari aims to serve an educational purpose. “The project is designed to give visitors—especially young people—a first-hand understanding of forest ecosystems and wildlife conservation,” the DC noted.
