In a significant development, members of the Belagavi District Small Scale Industries Association (BDSSIA) and the Belagavi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) met with ESIC Medical Superintendent, Dr. Manjunath Kalsannawar, to discuss the urgent need for shifting the ESIC Hospital from Ashok Nagar to a more suitable location. The current hospital building has been deemed unsafe, and the lack of proper facilities has caused growing concerns for both patients and medical staff.
The industrial representatives highlighted that the existing hospital, located in Ashok Nagar, is not only distant from the city’s main industrial hubs but is also in a precarious condition, posing a serious risk to doctors, insured employees (IP holders), and visitors. “The building is in such a dangerous state that it could collapse at any moment,” they warned, calling on the government to take swift action.

BDSSIA and BCCI have identified possible new locations in Udyambag and Machhe, which are much closer to the industrial areas. The relocation would benefit thousands of IP holders who work in the nearby industrial estates, improving access to healthcare and enhancing overall safety. The members stressed the importance of relocating the hospital to these areas, stating it would provide much-needed convenience and relief for the city’s industrial workers.
The ESIC authorities have assured that the concerns will be addressed, and the process of shifting the hospital is expected to commence soon, ensuring that both the employees and the medical community have access to better and safer facilities.
