After months of speculation, multiple representations, and mounting public frustration, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has finally provided some concrete clarity on the much-anticipated Vande Bharat train extension to Belagavi.

In a letter addressed to Minister Pralhad Joshi dated April 2025, Vaishnaw wrote:

> “Kindly refer to your letter dated 10.02.2025 regarding extension of Bengaluru–Dharwad Vande Bharat train to Belagavi and change of its timing. You would be pleased to know that the new Bengaluru–Belagavi Vande Bharat train has been planned, starting from Belagavi in the morning.”

This statement marks the first official written confirmation from the Railway Ministry that a dedicated Vande Bharat train originating from Belagavi is in the works.

While this letter has sparked renewed optimism, citizens and rail enthusiasts are tempering their celebrations. The region has seen several high-level meetings, promises, and visits over the last two years with little to show in terms of actual services. The original demand dates back to November 2022, and many still recall the frustrating back-and-forth over timetabling and logistical hurdles.

Public voices are now calling not just for announcements, but for actionable timelines. Some even argue that instead of waiting endlessly for premium services, a Jan Shatabdi from Belagavi to Bengaluru might serve more people and meet current needs better.

The wait continues, but now with an official letter to hold on to. Will this finally lead to a Vande Bharat running from Belagavi? The ball is now truly in Indian Railways’ court.

  1. Is it a new train nonsense. Please post sensibly. Instead of extension, a new sleeper train or day vandebharat could have been planned to bangalore from belgaum. When 2 vande bharat from mysore to chennai is possible, then why can’t via hubli to bangalore

    • True. More over we need more trains directly from Hubli. Start new trains from Belgaum if demand requires. It’s very inconvenient for travelers from Hubli. Most trains are already full by the time it reaches Hubli.
Example: Siddaganga, Mysore Special Fare, Vishvamanav, Vande Bharat, KSR BLR, Garib Nawaz, Ajmer, Ranichennama, KSR super Fast, Gol Gumbaz, YPR Express, Sampark Kranti and more trains don’t start from Hubli.

  2. Sir Belgamites are still thinking whether this is the new train or extension. In case this is the new train then again they’re helping someone with additional train and belgamites are deprived of their legitimate demand. Let’s see the final outcome
