Former Goa MLA Lavoo Mamaledar Fatally Attacked in Belagavi by auto driver

Former Goa MLA Lavoo Mamaledar (69) was fatally attacked and died on the spot following a verbal altercation with an auto driver in Belagavi city on Saturday.

The incident occurred near Srinivasa Lodge in Khadebazar, around 1 to 1.39 pm where Mamaledar and the auto driver got into an argument over a minor issue. The altercation escalated, leading the auto driver to physically attack Mamaledar, causing his death while he was waking into the Lodge after the auto driver slapped him.

The police have arrested Amirsuhil Shakilsab Sanadi, the auto driver and an investigation is on.

Ex-MLA Lavoo Mamledar got into an altercation with a rickshaw driver following a road accident. During the dispute, the accused slapped Mamledar, causing him to fall down the lodge’s stairs. He collapsed and was later taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to Belagavi DCP (Law and Order) Rohan Jagdish.

Mamaledar, a former legislator from the Ponda constituency in Goa, was also a retired police officer. His body has been sent to Belagavi’s BIMS Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The accused was swiftly taken into custody by the Market Police but his identity has not yet been revealed. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rohan Jagdish visited the crime scene as investigations continue.
