The groundbreaking ceremony for a new park at Camp Dhobighat in Belagavi was held with enthusiasm on Monday morning. The park is being developed with a grant of ₹19 lakh from the Municipal Development Authority.
The event was chaired by Belgaum North MLA Asif Seth and featured Brigadier Joydeep Mukherjee, Chairman of the Belagavi Cantonment Board and MLIRC, as the chief guest. Brigadier Mukherjee formally inaugurated the development work following a traditional puja and aarti.
In his address, MLA Asif Sait expressed appreciation for the proactive involvement of Brigadier Mukherjee, the Chief Executive Officer, and former board members in preserving water resources and enhancing greenery in the Cantonment area.
“A well-designed park will now take shape at Dhobighat. We’ve sanctioned ₹19 lakh for this purpose through the Municipal Development Authority. Work will begin immediately and is expected to be completed before the monsoon ends,” Seth said.

Brigadier Joydeep Mukherjee shared that the rainwater harvesting project at Dhobighat was completed two months ago. With this phase behind them, the next stage involves transforming the area into an ecological park.
“This park will become a vibrant space for morning and evening walkers, as well as fitness enthusiasts,” he said. Emphasizing community involvement, Brigadier Mukherjee added, “The Cantonment area belongs to all of us. While the Board works to keep it beautiful, it is equally the responsibility of residents to help maintain it.”
