A high-level inspection of the proposed site for the new Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office was conducted at Hindalga recently in the presence of Guardian Minister Satish Jarkiholi, Women and Child Welfare Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, DC Mohammad Roshan, and other officials. The visit followed a crucial meeting to discuss the project’s progress.
The state government has allocated ₹50 crore in the budget for constructing a modern DC office building. As part of the evaluation process, officials earlier inspected the Tehsildar Office, Sub-Registrar Office, and the CN Police Station before assessing the site at Hindalga.
Alternative locations such as Kanbargi, Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, and Hindalga
The government has already sanctioned funds to clear existing government offices, including the Deputy Commissioner’s office, KADA, Horticulture, Deputy Registrar’s office, Small Savings, Library, Lokayukta, Deputy Divisional Officer’s office, and the Taluk Panchayat. The plan involves constructing a multi-storey building to house all these offices under one roof, ensuring ample space, modern amenities, and sufficient parking.
Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar emphasized that Hindalga’s proximity to the city makes it a viable option for the new office. She also pointed out that demolishing historical buildings within the current DC office premises could lead to unnecessary debate and space constraints. Therefore, alternative locations such as Kanbargi, Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, and Hindalga are being explored for the project.
New Site Selection May Delay DC Office Construction Timeline
With the decision to identify a new site for the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office, the construction process could face further delays. Initially, the plan was to demolish all old buildings up to the CADA office and develop the new DC office at the same location. However, with alternative sites now being considered, the project timeline may be extended.
