KLE Society, a pioneer in providing quality healthcare in North Karnataka, has reached a new milestone by establishing the KLE Dr. Sampatkumar S. Shivanagi Cancer Hospital and Research Centre. This world-class facility, dedicated to comprehensive cancer care, will be formally inaugurated by the Honourable President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, on December 30, 2024, at 4 PM.
The inauguration ceremony will also feature prominent dignitaries, including the Honourable Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Union Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi, Karnataka Ministers Dr. Sharanprakash Patil and Shri Satish Jarakiholi, and other distinguished leaders.
A Visionary Step for Comprehensive Cancer Care
Recognizing the increasing need for specialized cancer treatment, KLE Society resolved in 2012 to establish a dedicated cancer hospital in Belagavi. Spanning 1,75,000 square feet with a capacity of 300 beds, the hospital was built with cutting-edge technology at a cost of over ₹300 crore. This advanced facility integrates various specialties under one roof, including:
- Medical Oncology
- Radiation Oncology equipped with the latest Varian Halcyon Elite and Varian TrueBeam LINACs for precise treatments like IMRT, IGRT, VMAT, and SBRT.
- Surgical Oncology with two modern operating theatres and a fully equipped ICU.
- Paediatric Oncology, Gynae-Oncology, Head and Neck Oncology, and more.
- A specialized Pain and Palliative Care Unit and a Lymphedema Clinic.
The Radiation Oncology Department began operations on April 23, 2023, ensuring patients could benefit from its services while the hospital’s setup was completed.

The hospital also features:
- A daycare centre for chemotherapy, treating around 400 patients monthly.
- Nutritional counseling, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation services.
- Subsidized treatment options through government schemes like Ayushman Bharat, Vajpayee Arogya Scheme, and others.

In addition to providing exceptional care, the hospital is committed to cancer research, awareness campaigns, and training healthcare professionals.

Named after Dr. Sampatkumar S. Shivanagi, a gracious donor along with Dr. (Smt.) Udaya S. Shivanagi, the hospital represents a tribute to their philanthropic vision. The donors will be felicitated during the inaugural ceremony.
With this initiative, KLE Society continues its tradition of addressing the region’s healthcare needs, building on its legacy of over 4,000 beds, including 1,700 charitable beds, at its hospitals. The new cancer hospital marks a significant step in transforming cancer care and research in North Karnataka and beyond.
