A shocking case of land misappropriation has come to light in the Bailahongal taluk of the Belagavi district, where 5.5 acres of government land—originally registered in the name of the Karnataka Governor for distribution among the poor—has allegedly been transferred to private individuals.

RTI activist Bhimappa Gadad has raised serious allegations, questioning the role of key officials, including the District Collector and the Tahsildar, in this land transfer. According to records, the state government had purchased six acres from Survey No. 221/1B in Mallammana Belavadi back in 2002, to allot plots to the underprivileged. However, in a controversial “correction” of land records, all but 35 guntes of this land were allegedly reassigned to private individuals.

Gadad claims that this fraudulent transfer was carried out under the guise of a land title amendment, with then-District Magistrate Nitesh Patil and Bailahongal AC Prabhavathi allegedly playing a role in the process. He has demanded strict action against those responsible.

Officials Deny Wrongdoing
Responding to the allegations, Prabhavathi refuted any involvement, stating that she merely forwarded the file to the District Collector in 2023 without making any alterations.
