The Mysore Laboratory has reported that the water pipes installed in certain areas of Belagavi under the 24-hour water supply scheme are of poor quality. Consequently, L&T is now tasked with laying new, higher-quality water pipelines. This development has sparked anger among local corporators, as the process will require additional digging reports the Sakal.

The Karnataka Infrastructure Board has decided not to remove the substandard pipelines but instead lay new ones alongside them. This issue is not confined to Belagavi alone but has also been identified in Hubli-Dharwad and Gulbarga, leading to delays in the 24-hour water supply scheme.

Fortunately, no taps have been connected to the defective pipelines yet. Officials have assured that tap connections will be provided only after the new pipelines are installed, though this will delay the project further. The board is monitoring the situation closely, having confirmed that some HDV pipelines laid for the scheme are of inferior quality.

The process, initially started in 2021, is now facing significant delays. L&T has been actively digging and installing new pipelines across the city. However, complaints have arisen regarding inadequate road restoration post-installation. MLA Abhay Patil has admonished L&T officials, urging them to address the issue promptly.
