Prison authorities seized mobile phones and electronic accessories during a surprise raid at the Hindalga Central Prison, following which the Belagavi Rural Police have registered a case.
According to the prison administration, the inspection was carried out between 10.40 pm on December 22 and the early hours of December 23. During the search, prohibited items were found concealed on the roof of a toilet in barrack number seven of circle number one.
The seized items included a keypad mobile phone with a SIM card, a charging adapter and three small USB charging cables. Assistant Inspector Mallikarjun Kunnur of the Central Prison has lodged a formal complaint in this connection.
Prison officials said efforts are underway to identify the inmates involved in possessing and using the banned items, and further investigation is in progress.
