Belagavi Lok Sabha MP Jagadish Shettar walked out of the Belagavi Cantonment Board general meeting after strongly objecting to the alleged illegal allocation of about 6,045 sq. m. of land in the Cantonment area for setting up flower market stalls without permission from the APMC.

During the meeting, Shettar questioned the decision and took officials to task, stating that the land allocation was made without consulting the MP representing the constituency, passing a proper resolution, inviting tenders transparently, or clarifying the intended use by the tender holder. The issue has also drawn public criticism due to the alleged loss of lakhs of rupees.

Shettar proposed that the earlier resolution be cancelled and a fresh or revised resolution be placed before the House. However, when the Cantonment Board President rejected the proposal and indicated that the previous resolution would stand, the MP condemned the decision, stopped participating in the meeting midway, and walked out, according to a press release from his office.
