In a significant move toward enhancing regional connectivity, Belagavi Lok Sabha MP Jagadish Shettar convened a high-level meeting at the Belagavi Airport Office to discuss the development of Belagavi Airport. The meeting was attended by officials from the Revenue Department, Airport Authority of India, IndiGo, and Star Airlines, along with the Belagavi Deputy Commissioner.

With Belagavi emerging as one of Karnataka’s fastest-growing cities, the demand for expanded air connectivity has intensified. Addressing this need, MP Shettar directly engaged with airline representatives, inquiring about their potential new routes. Both IndiGo and Star Airlines assured that they would prioritize launching services to Pune in the near future.

The airlines also expressed willingness to explore additional routes to high-demand destinations such as Jodhpur, Ajmer, and Chennai, aligning with public demand and the region’s growing travel requirements.

Discussions during the meeting also touched upon the long-term vision of upgrading Belagavi Airport to international status. Deputy Commissioner assured full support and coordinated efforts from the administration to realize this goal.

Officials also briefed the MP on the ongoing four-laning of the Belagavi-Sambra road, a key infrastructure upgrade aimed at easing traffic and improving access to the airport.

MP Shettar also visited the under-construction terminal building, part of the airport’s ongoing expansion project. He expressed satisfaction with the progress and noted that the new terminal is expected to be completed by 2026. Once operational, it will enhance passenger convenience and enable the addition of more domestic flight routes.

“The development of the airport is a vital step in connecting Belagavi to the rest of the country, and we are committed to making it a reality,” MP Shettar said in a press release.
