In a significant development, the Belagavi City Corporation was forced to return a stretch of road to its original owner on Thursday, following a court order. The land in question, located at Khanjar Galli and Jalgar Galli, had been used to construct a road 15 years ago. However, no compensation was provided to the landowner, Maqbool Aga, for the 800 square feet that had been appropriated, leading to a legal battle.

Maqbool Aga filed a lawsuit in the civil court, seeking the return of his land. The court ruled in his favor, ordering the Municipal Corporation to restore the property to its rightful owner. In compliance with the order, municipal officials, under the supervision of Commissioner Ashok Dudgunti, handed over the land after excavating the road with the help of JCB machinery.

The event drew a large crowd, and police security was deployed to maintain order. This marks yet another setback for the Municipal Corporation, as reclaiming the land highlights issues surrounding compensation and land use in the city.
