In view of persistent traffic congestion and rising accident risks, the Traffic Police are considering a proposal to introduce a one-way traffic system on the main stretch between the Central Bus Stand (CBT) and Khadebazar. The move is being examined against the backdrop of chronic bottlenecks caused by narrow carriageways, unauthorised parking, and a steady increase in vehicular volume.

The CBTโ€“Khadebazar corridor is among the busiest routes in the city, carrying heavy movement of buses, auto-rickshaws, two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and pedestrians. Traffic snarls peak during morning and evening hours, creating significant inconvenience for commuters and passengers alike.

Under the proposal, traffic from CBT towards Khadebazar would operate as one-way, while return traffic would be diverted through alternative routes. The plan also aims for the upgradation/installation of traffic signals, clear directional signage, stricter parking controls along adjoining roads, and enhanced deployment of traffic police personnel.

Authorities intend to seek suggestions and objections from trade associations, local residents, and motorists before implementation. The Traffic Police plan to roll out the arrangement on a pilot basis for a few days, review its effectiveness, and address any shortcomings before taking a final call.
