A major milestone awaits Rani Chennamma University, Hire Bagewadi, as the foundation stone for its much-anticipated new campus will be laid on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:30 am. The event will take place at the BIMS Civil Hospital Super Specialty Centre premises in Belagavi.
Hon’ble Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will perform the ceremony, which marks the launch of a series of significant projects under the Multi-Disciplinary Education & Research University (MERU) scheme, supported jointly by the Central and State Governments with a grant of ₹100 crore.

Key Projects Planned
The upcoming works include:
- Establishment of a Central Research Center
- Dedicated Chairs of Studies for Kittur Rani Chennamma, Sangolli Rayanna, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay
- A new School of Languages to promote Kannada, English, and other languages
Out of the sanctioned funds, ₹68 crore will go towards building construction, while ₹32 crore is earmarked for the purchase of advanced scientific instruments and research equipment.
The new campus aims to:
- Strengthen RCU’s position in NAAC and NIRF rankings
- Provide academic benefits to nearly 1.65 lakh students enrolled in the university
- Build a model education hub on the lines of a Science City
- Foster research collaboration with IIT Dharwad, IIIT Dharwad, Karnataka Agricultural University, Karnataka University Dharwad, and other premier institutions of North Karnataka
To ensure smooth access, a CC road linking the National Highway to the new campus will also be constructed at a cost of ₹9.5 crore. The project has been sanctioned with the special initiative of Public Works and District In-charge Minister Satish Jarkiholi, along with Higher Education Minister Dr. M.C. Sudhakar and Women & Child Welfare Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar. The foundation stone for this connectivity project will also be laid by the Hon’ble Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers.
The foundation ceremony will see the presence of the Higher Education Minister, MPs, MLAs, MLCs of the district, Vice-Chancellor Prof. C.M. Thyagaraj, and senior officials of the university and government.
