With the winter session of the Karnataka Legislature set to begin soon at Suvarna Vidhan Soudha, MP Jagadish Shettar has directed officials to ensure that all city roads in Belagavi are repaired without delay and that overall cleanliness is maintained.
Chairing a comprehensive review meeting on the progress of Smart City projects and the Saudatti Yallamma Temple development works on Wednesday, Shettar expressed dissatisfaction over delays and lapses in several civic works.
₹990-Crore Smart City Project: Four Works Still Pending
Managing Director Shubha B. informed that 104 out of 108 works under the Smart City Mission—funded with a grant of around ₹990 crore—out of which works worth Rs. 931 Crore have been completed, while four projects remain pending.
Shettar urged that these remaining works be taken up on priority.
He also questioned the delay in completing Tilakwadi’s Kala Mandir commercial complex, expressing displeasure that the shops built there have not yet been allotted. He warned officials that keeping stalls vacant would lead to deterioration and ordered immediate action, including initiating fresh tenders if required.
City Bus Stand & Land Transfer Issues
The MP also reviewed the status of the new city bus stand and the pending transfer of adjoining land from the Cantonment Board to the Belagavi City Corporation, instructing officials to complete the process at the earliest.

Park and Lake Development Under AMRUT Scheme
Officials informed that ₹24 crore has been sanctioned under the Central Government’s AMRUT scheme for the rejuvenation of seven lakes and parks in the city.
Shettar directed that these works must be accelerated.
₹135 Crore Solid Waste Management Project Delayed
Expressing concern over the lack of progress in Belagavi’s ₹135 crore solid waste management project, sanctioned in 2023, Shettar instructed officials to examine the reasons for the delay and commence the work without further setbacks.
Review of Yallamma Temple Development Project
In a separate meeting, Shettar reviewed the ₹118-crore Yallamma Temple Development Project.
Officials of the Tourism Department stated that the project has been approved and the tender documents are currently under scrutiny. After speaking with the Joint Commissioner of Tourism, Shettar directed that approval be expedited so tenders can be floated immediately.
Development Authority Secretary Ashok Dudgunti, Board Commissioner Geeta Kaulgi, Deputy Director of Tourism Badiger, and others were present for the meeting.
Halga STP Project & Compensation Issues
The MP also reviewed the Halga Sewage Treatment Plant project, raising concerns regarding delays and compensation matters with landowners.
Managing Director Shubha B. confirmed that the revised compensation file has been approved by the Cabinet and payments will be released soon.
