Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar raised a query in the Lok Sabha regarding the opening of defence roads for public access, particularly near Sainik Nagar. Responding to the question, Minister of State for Defence, Shri Sanjay Seth, clarified the status of key roads in the city that have been closed due to security concerns.
According to the minister, the Army Authorities have shut down the following roads in Belagavi, citing threats to defence establishments and the safety of civilians:

- Sainik Nagar Road – This road passes through a military area. While an alternative route exists for Sainik Nagar residents, the matter is currently sub judice in the Karnataka High Court.
- Chouglewadi-Papamala Road – This road runs through a notified firing range of the Indian Army. To ensure the security and safety of civilians, fencing has been installed to prevent accidents during firing exercises. An alternate route is available for public use.
- Basav Colony Road – The Army has stated that no such road officially exists. Previously, civilians accessed a pathway through A-1 defence land, which was later restricted due to security concerns. An alternative route is already in place for public convenience.
The issue of defence road closures has been a longstanding concern for residents in these areas. While the Defence Ministry maintains that security considerations necessitate these restrictions, locals continue to seek access to these routes for ease of movement.
