A new smart traffic signal system has been implemented on a pilot basis at Krishnadevaraya Circle in Nehru Nagar, Belagavi to ease growing traffic congestion in Belagavi city.

Under this upgraded system, the traffic signal automatically turns red as soon as all vehicles at a particular lane have cleared the junction. Once no traffic is detected on that route, the signal immediately allows vehicles from other directions to move, rather than continuing with fixed timings.

Currently, most traffic signals in the city operate on preset time intervals. Often, vehicles clear the junction within a few seconds, but the green signal remains on even when there is no traffic, forcing vehicles on other roads to wait unnecessarily and causing delays.

The new smart signal addresses this issue by detecting zero traffic and dynamically changing signals, helping save time and ensure smoother traffic flow.

Police Commissioner Bhushan Borse visited Krishnadevaraya Circle and inspected the newly installed system.

Police officials said the pilot project has received a positive response. Based on its success, the smart signal system will be extended to other major intersections in the city in the coming days, and motorists can expect improved traffic management in the near future.
