In a recent RTI appeal filed by resident Anant Patil, the Railways have provided an update on the ongoing construction of the Third Gate Road Over Bridge (RoB) Phase 2 at Belagavi.

According to the response, the two-lane RoB replacing Level Crossing (LC) 381 was commissioned in October 2022, with LC 381 subsequently closed on March 14, 2024. The service roads, which were completed according to the approved drawings, provide a vertical clearance of 4 meters for vehicles passing through.

The update further elaborated on the status of the additional two-lane RoB, a project executed on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis with the Government of Karnataka. The foundation work, specifically piling on the Belagavi side, has been completed. However, progress on the Khanapur side has encountered a delay.

During the construction on the Khanapur side, officials from the Government of Karnataka (GOK) advised the adoption of portal frames instead of circular columns for Piers P7 and P8, leading to a temporary halt in work. The Railways have requested GOK to provide in-principle approval for the design changes and agree to bear the additional costs associated with these modifications.

“The Railways are prepared to resume the construction immediately upon receiving the necessary approvals from the Government of Karnataka,” the statement concluded.
