The Karnataka state government is grappling with scheduling the upcoming Winter Legislative Session at Belagavi’s Suvarna Soudha. The challenge arises from the overlap with two major events: the Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Mandya and the centenary celebrations of the historic Belagavi Congress Session.

The Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, originally planned for February 2024 but postponed due to drought and other factors, has now been rescheduled for December 20-23 in Mandya. At the same time, the government is preparing to host a grand event in Belagavi on December 26-27, marking 100 years since the Belgaum Congress Session, famously presided over by Mahatma Gandhi in 1924.

With pressure from pro-Kannada groups to maintain the Sahitya Sammelana’s December dates, and the centenary celebrations falling later in the month, the government is bound. Holding the Winter Session in the third or fourth week of December seems impractical.

Sources within the government indicate that discussions are ongoing. One possibility is holding the Winter Session during the first two weeks of December to avoid clashing with these significant events.

Winter Session Uncertainty Causes Dilemma for December Weddings

Many families with weddings scheduled in December are facing a dilemma as they await the official announcement of dates for the Winter Legislative Session in Belagavi. If the session is held, all major hotels and accommodations will likely be fully booked for government officials and delegates, leaving little to no availability for those attending weddings and other private events.

In response to this uncertainty, several families have already shifted their wedding venues to other locations, fearing a shortage of rooms and logistical challenges. However, some are holding out hope, anxiously waiting for the government to finalize the session dates before deciding on their wedding plans.
