246 basement owners will get notices from City corporation starting from tomorrow. All the 246 notices are ready sources said. A 10 day period will be given to the owners to vacate the basements in which it is illegal to run any kind of business as per law.
In North section there are 105 and 72 properties in South which house these 246 shops.
In August 2013 about 13 eviction notices were issued to owners of basements in Maruti galli, but after a while the process went on the back foot.
Then the Belgaum Basement and Possessor Association (BBPA) has called this as injustice.
As per the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act 1976, Section 32 (1), a provisional order is issued asking building owners to vacate the basement area. Seven days later, if the basement is not free for parking, a confirmatory order is issued and authorities can start demolition or eviction of the shops.
